New
York born painter Laura BenAmots considers the world her home but is
at home nowhere.
Full
of contradictions - isolation and chaos, kindness and brutality -
the many disparate childhood experiences shaped BenAmots. Sailing on
the last voyage of the Greek oceanliner Queen Anna Maria, her
parents, the Kaufmans, moved the family to Israel for her formative
years. There they continued frequent moves making Haifa then Ein Hod
and finally Jerusalem the family home for a time. She always
painted.
BenAmots' formal training began at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine
Art, continued at the Tyler School of Art and concluded with a
Masters of Fine Art from the Philadelphia University of the Arts.
Her career has included exhibits nationwide; i.e. Bookworks Gallery
in Chicago, historic Print Club in Philadephia, Edge Gallery in
Denver, and DotFiftyOne in Miami. In November 2008 San Fransisco
based Last Gasp Publishers, together with Smokemuse, released a
hard cover book of BenAmots' erotic paintings (Eros On Canvas: the
erotic paintings of Laura BenAmots).
Laura
lives in Colorado with her 2 sons where she paints and serves as
gallery director and tenured studio faculty at the Pikes Peak
Community College Art Department.
